Five ways to hype yourself this September

Small steps for big impact

Five ways to hype yourself this September

I arrived back from being away on Tuesday morning and saw the co-founder of my children had laid out the kids' pyjamas on the bed ready for after their bath that evening.

I smirked to myself, because it is the system I put in place when he is not there. Usually, I’m the one home alone, and he is travelling for work.

And it reminded me that it is these smaller, insignificant tasks we do, once part of a routine, that make our lives easier.

It is the same with hyping yourself.

I’m often asked how much time I dedicate to promotion. But for me, it’s not always one big chunk of time. It is the little actions that become part of my routine.

Hiya? How are you doing?

I'm not bursting with back-to-school energy post-summer, so I wanted to share five things I’m working on, along with some smaller hype actions this month, to help me get seen. Let me know which one you might do?

  1. Pinned postsThe most underrated tool in the PR toolbox. I liken this to the menu in your shop window.Do you have a pinned or featured post on your key social media channels that explains what you actually sell and how people can work with you? It’s never the most engaged post. However, it is a small action that makes the biggest difference.
  2. Revised bannersI’ve ignored these for 2025; it's time to roll out my new branding on my social media banners. I’m also using the new strapling Get. Seen. Get Paid. So it is an opportunity to share this message on my key channels, along with a link to my newsletter.(On reflection, I wish I had done temporary banners when I was promoting my creative writing retreat… next time!)
  3. Update my biography and headshotsI’m finally adding a downloadable bio and headshot to my website, having had a broken link there for at least three years.Anywhere my biography appears: Amazon author page, Domestika instructor page, LinkedIn etc, will also get the revised version, and I shall save it in a dedicated folder.
  4. Welcome emails / customer journeyShocking news BUT not everyone wants to be a paid reader of my newsletter. I know. However, they are interested in my events, booking me for one-to-one or consultancy. If people are new to my world, there is no gentle flow here to introduce people to who I am and the ways you can work with me. This is a missed opportunity for new subscribers to join me.
  5. WaitlistsI learnt the hard way that not having a plan B when people cancel a retreat can leave a severe dent in your pocket. Equally, we can start promoting something way ahead of a launch by building a waitlist. Then we have people primed and ready when we have a new product or service to launch!

I’ll write up the top two, and we can do it together?

Keep on hyping (which includes resting and planning!).
